Iran announces the arrival of a delegation to Riyadh in preparation for reopening the embassy and consulate


The Iranian delegation will discuss in Saudi Arabia the resumption of the activity of the permanent Iranian representation in the Organization of Islamic.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said today, Wednesday, that a delegation from Tehran arrived in Saudi Arabia to make the necessary arrangements to open his country's embassy in Riyadh and its consulate in Jeddah.

Kanaani added, in statements broadcast by the official Iranian television, that the delegation will discuss in Saudi Arabia the resumption of the activity of the permanent Iranian representation in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.



 The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also stated that Tehran will seek to open its missions in Saudi Arabia and resume its activities "before the Hajj season."

A Saudi technical delegation visited Tehran last Saturday to discuss mechanisms for reopening the Kingdom's representations in Iran , in implementation of the two countries' recent agreement to resume diplomatic relations with Chinese mediation.


And Saudi Arabia and Iran announced last month that they had reached an agreement on resuming diplomatic relations and reopening the embassies and representations of the two countries within a maximum of two months, in a move that was widely welcomed by the Arab and international community.

And on Tuesday, the Saudi Cabinet discussed developments regarding the agreement to resume relations between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran , and what was included in the talks between the two countries, which were held in Beijing in terms of agreement and coordination regarding the necessary steps to resume diplomatic and consular work between them, and stressing the importance of following up on implementation, in a way that enhances mutual trust. It expands the scope of cooperation and contributes to achieving security, stability and prosperity in the region.

This came during the chairmanship of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the session held by the Council of Ministers, on Tuesday, at the Peace Palace in Jeddah, where the Council of Ministers was briefed on the overall talks that took place between Saudi Arabia and a number of countries.

And last March, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed in Beijing to resume the severed relations between them since 2016.

Riyadh confirmed that the agreement was concluded on the basis of restoring diplomatic relations, amid a common desire on both sides to resolve differences through communication and dialogue.

After the agreement, a tripartite statement was issued by the three countries that included the provisions stipulated therein, including an affirmation of the sovereignty of each country and non-interference in internal affairs, in addition to the Saudi and Iranian foreign ministers holding a meeting to activate the arrangement for the exchange of ambassadors, and to discuss ways to strengthen relations between them.
